Located in East Kerr County, Zanzenberg Farm specializes in raising heritage breed pigs on our pastures and in our pecan orchard. Much like heirloom vegetables, heritage breeds were very common on the American homestead centuries ago. Justin and Kayte take extra care to raise these animals on open pastures where they are free to breathe in fresh air, take in the natural sunlight, root in the nutrient rich soil and are pampered with daily mud baths.
Their diet consists of a diversity of greens from the pasture, pecans, free from corn and soy and finished on whey and cheese from our very own local cheesemaker, River Whey Creamery.
The pork is pretty incredible. Full of flavor and loaded with vitamins and minerals, it's unlike any pork you'll ever taste! But don't take our word for it. Place an order online for delivery or pickup or Drop in to one of our markets this week and pick up a pack of chops!
Well, we think the answer is "absolutely"! We care greatly about the health and welfare of our animals! And there's no denying that animals who have access to their natural environment are healthier and happier than animals raised in factory farms. But, doesn't all come down to flavor.
Flavor: The Proof is in the Pork. Once you've tasted the creamy, buttery flavor of our pasture raised pork, you'll have a very difficult time returning to supermarket pork.
